Description
This is the oldest promotion patent that we have ever offered. It is for an Oberst who was being promoted to Generalmajor. His name was Ludwig von Gersdorff. He was the commander of Infantrie-Brigade Nr 32 and á la Suite Infantrie-Regiment Nr 27. This document measures 14 1/4″ x 8 3/4.” It unfolds into three separate pages with various information. The document is dated 22 May 1858 and signed by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia. It has been folded, with some minor tears and foxing at certain points. That said, the document is complete, and generally in good condition. It is very difficult to find promotion patents for generals. It is nothing short of astounding to find one that is nearly 150 years old! King Friedrich Wilhelm IV’s signature is on the final page.
