Description
When used in a civilian setting, an ausweis was an identification card. This example was issued not long after WW I. The ausweis measures 6 1/8″ x 4.” It is folded so that it has four pages. The front has the basic information on the identified person: his date of birth, address, etc. As you open the ausweis, the left side features the man’s photograph and signature. The page directly across has a local police department official’s signature (the police department issued the ausweis). It is dated 29 Juli 1922. Circular local police department stamp imprints appear across these two pages (similar to a Militärpaß’s regimental stamp imprints). The back page is nothing more than information about the police department that issued the ausweis. It is an interesting item for all you “paper” collectors.
