Description
This is a soft cover book that was written in 1998. The Medal of Honor or Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest decoration given by the U.S. to its soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines. Like the Victoria Cross, and unlike the Pour le Mérite, it was awarded regardless of rank. It could be awarded to privates and generals alike. It was awarded for a specific act of bravery. It was established in 1861 and was awarded during the War Between the States (Civil War), and is still awarded to this day. The book concentrates on the aviators of WW I. It concentrates on eight men who received it during the brief time that the U.S. participated in WW I. Perhaps the best-known of the awardees are Frank Luke and Eddie Rickenbacker. The book is liberally illustrated with many fine photographs.
