This is a fascinating color lithograph of a mounted officer from the Regiment der Garde du Corps. It is from the Napoleonic War Period. His headdress is much different from what we are used to with the Regiment der Garde du Corps since this, of course, was prior to the use of pickelhauben. The officer is mounted on a spirited steed and wears his küraß over his tunic. The Garde Star adorns his horse blanket. A küraßier’s sword hangs at his waist. In the picture’s background, the infantry is advancing. The framed presentation measures 8 3/4″ x 7 1/4.” The image inside the frame measures 12″ x 9 ½.” It is difficult to say from what period the frame dates, however, my best guess is that it was framed between 1900 and 1930. It reveals honest aging. The lithograph inside the frame may be even older, from the paper’s appearance. A hanger is attached to the reverse. This one is ready to go up on the wall.
