Today we are offering two separate German newspaper accounts that deal with the (Second) Boer War (1899-1902) between Great Britain and South Africa’s Boers, descendants of Dutch settlers in that country. Newspaper # 1 details a battle in which a large number of British soldiers and officers were killed or wounded during a sharp action. Included among the wounded was a British Brigadier. The communiqué comes from a telegram sent to London on 3 October (unknown year). Newspaper # 2 is the Leipziger Tageblatt, dated 27 February 1900. It deals with the defeat of the Boers’ General Cronje, as well as a reference to the (First) Boer War (1880-1881). [Please note, a very young Winston Churchill fought for England in this conflict].
