Description
Death cards were an important remembrance to families whose sons fell in Germany’s defense during WW I. Frequently, the actual remains were never returned home for burial, so this was something tangible by which families could memorialize their fallen sons, brothers, and husbands. This card is for a Wilhelm Vögle. He was born on 20 August 1893 at St. Georgen, and fell on 6 April 1916. He was a winner of the Iron Cross and served in Artillerie-Regiment Nr 66. Two poems are dedicated to him, and St. Michael is seen slaying a dragon.
