Description
This is a postcard-sized original photograph of a family or families of females and soldiers. It is enclosed in a patriotic frame embroidered in Germany’s national colors of red, black and white. The frame measures 4 ½” x 6 ½.” Three young women and one older woman, who may be the mother of the four soldiers, are in the photo. One of the younger women has a small girl sitting on her lap. The photo is dated 1916. Seated in the center is an NCO, who appears to be the eldest. He is wearing a 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class in his buttonhole and a large ribbon bar on his tunic. He is also holding TWO canes, so he was severely wounded. This is an interesting study of a family pausing in the midst of war.
