Description
BOOK – R.A.F. BADGES – ISSUED BY JOHN PLAYER & SONS CIGARETTE COMPANY.
John Player & Sons Cigarettes is a famous British tobacco and cigarette manufacturer that was founded in 1820. It merged with the Imperial Tobacco Group in 1901, but continued to produce cigarettes under its original name. Its cigarettes are still produced today by the United Kingdom’s Imperial Brands. This small book was issued under the John Player & Sons name and sold in the U.K. for one penny. It features the R.A.F.’s badges. Like Imperial Germany’s similar cigarette albums, the small (only 5″ x 7 ¼”) book features 51 cigarette cards and descriptions of the R.A.F.’s various squadron badges. Dating from the 1930’s and 1940’s, the badges come from various squadrons within the R.A.F.
Each full-color cigarette card measures 1 ½” x 2 ½.” The handbook is informative and interesting, providing a good, basic overview of the period’s many R.A.F. squadron badges. The book is in excellent condition, with all the cards present.
