GERMANY – PATRIOTIC EARRINGS – FASHIONED FROM COINS
This is a very handsome pair of pierced earrings that combine a patriotic theme with a touch of trench art. The earrings’ centers consist of gilt-toned 20 pfennig coins. Both were minted in 1876, five years after Kaiser Wilhelm I became Germany’s first Kaiser. The obverse features a magnificent crowned Hohenzollern Eagle. The reverse speaks of the Deutsches Reich, the coins’ denomination and the date. A loop is attached to each earring to allow them to be threaded through the ear. A miniature bullet hangs from a very small loop on the bottom of each coin.
