Description
This is a fine postcard of the Battleship S. M. S. Deutschland. She was the lead ship of the Deutschland Battleship Class. She was commissioned in 1906 and served as the fleet flagship until 1913. She served proudly at the Battle of Jutland (Skagerrak) in 1916. In August, she was decommissioned and served as a floating barracks until the war’s end. She was scrapped in 1922. The postcard depicts her in profile, under steam with a tender at her stern. Although it was never mailed, the postcard features a couple of collector notes in the reverse’s upper right corner.
