Description
This is a colorized postcard that depicts Kronprinz Ruprecht of Bavaria (1869-1955). Ruprecht was König Ludwig III of Bavaria’s oldest son. Kronprinz Ruprecht was a very capable military commander. Unlike many royals who served as à la Suite officers, he was a legitimate military commander. He commanded Bavaria’s 6. Armee until 1916, when he was promoted to Generalfeldmarschall. He commanded Armee-Gruppe Ruprecht with great distinction. Ruprecht was opposed to National Socialism and fled to Italy in 1939. In this pose Albrecht is seen wearing an Iron Cross 1st Class and the ribbon of the Iron Cross 2nd Class in his buttonhole.
