Description
This is a pair of hauptmann’s shoulder boards from Thorner Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr 81. The regiment was raised in 1912as one of the final five (old-line) Prussian Feldartillerie Regiments that were created before WW I . The regiment was garrisoned at Thorn and assigned to the XVII. Armeekorps.
The shoulder boards are of the sewn-in rather than the slip-on variety. They also feature the pre war pattern rather than M-1915 feldgrau. Each shoulder board sports the gilt Feldartillerie flaming bomb and the “81” regimental designation. Each shoulder board displays two pips for the rank, although some differences exist between the two shoulder boards’ pip sizes. The reverse is covered in yellow felt. [Please keep in mind that this regiment was in existence for a very short time. Their history was only from 1912 through 1918, so relatively few officers served in the regiment. The end result means fewer of their shoulder boards are available]. We obtained these at a very attractive price that we are happy to share with you.
