GERMANY – BADGE – WW I U-BOOT

The German U-Boot badge was first authorized in March 1918, rather late in WW I as was the Navy wound badge. Many men who were awarded the badge never acquired one during the war. These were one piece massive badges both during and after the war. Having said that we see many reproduction badges of poor quality which are purported to have been produced in the 1930’s.

This badge is different as it is a cliche or stamped variety. We see this in late war aviation badges as quality and materials were lesser. The cliche style is also seen on both Army and Navy wound badges. This badge has a high gilt finish and the pin has a “wave” to it.

This is an interesting late war or early post WW I badge in very fine condition.
