LIPPE-DETMOLD – WAPPEN – FLÜGELADJUTANT
Flügeladjutants were officers who were assigned to the staff of a king, duke, prince, or a senior commander to serve as an Administrative or Executive Assistant. (The German translation of Flügel is “wing.”) The Flügeladjutant was a special assistant or aide to the German rulers at all levels (Kingdom, Grand Duchy, Duchy, Principality or etc.) and served at all ranks from General Officer on-down. They often came from the nobility.)
This is the wappen for the AdC to the Prince (Flügel Adjutant) of Lippe-Detmold and was worn after 1912 . It was based on the Guard Eagle with “KOENIG” on the motto banner. The eagle is silver with a silver eight pointed star on its chest. At the center of the star is a gold crowned shield with a Nettle-leaf and acorns around a Lippe coat of arms-rose. At the center of the star is a red ring encircling the Lippe coat of arms-rose. The detail and the finish on this very rare plate are exceptional. I do not think this particular plate was ever worn on a helmet.
Wappens like these are an exceptional addition to a headdress collection. You will seldom find wappens such as these as they are highly prized.
