Description
This postcard shows Duke Ernst August of Braunschweig (1887-1953) and his wife, the Duchess. He was married to Kaiser Wilhelm II’s daughter, the former Prinzessin Viktoria Luise (1892-1980). Their 1913 marriage brought Braunschweig back under its own duke’s direct rule for the first time since Braunschweig was absorbed by Prussia after the 1866 Austro-Prussian War. The Duke is wearing Braunschweig Husaren-Regiment Nr 17’s uniform. The postcard was mailed in 1913, the year of their marriage.
