POSTCARD – HERZOG ERNST AUGUST – BRAUNSCHWEIG – PRINZESSIN VIKTORIA LUISE

$15.00

This postcard shows Duke Ernst August of Braunschweig (1887-1953) and his wife, the Duchess. He was married to Kaiser Wilhelm II’s daughter, the former Prinzessin Viktoria Luise (1892-1980). Their 1913 marriage brought Braunschweig back under its own duke’s direct rule for the first time since Braunschweig was absorbed by Prussia after the 1866 Austro-Prussian War. The postcard shows the royal couple holding hands. On many of their postcards they appear to have genuinely loved one another and enjoyed being together. This did not seem to be the case with so many other German royals. The postcard was mailed in 1913, the year of their marriage.
