Description
This is a handsome table medal that measures 1 ½” in diameter.
It comes in a brown, leatherette presentation case measuring 2 5/8/” x 2 5/8 x 5/8,” whose front is emblazoned with a gilt Prussian Eagle. Inside, its top half is covered with almost pristine white silk, while the bottom half is covered with blue velvet. A small black ribbon beneath the medal enables one to lift it more easily from its fitted space.
The chestnut-colored medal’s obverse features a high-relief Greco-Roman goddess (probably Demeter/Ceres) in its center. She holds a full-length staff in her left hand and a laurel victory wreath in her right. She is surrounded by a number of smaller, also high-relief images depicting men and women engaged in farming activities, and several farm animals (plus a resting stag). The reverse displays a thick, high-relief wreath composed of laurel and oak leaves, in addition to other types of flowers and leaves, encircling the phrase “Fur Landwirthschaftliche Leistungen” (For Agricultural Services).
It is an extremely attractive piece.
