PRUSSIA – POSTCARD – CROWN PRINCE WILHELM IN THE UNIFORM AND SPIKE HELMET OF KÜRASSIER-REGIMENT NR 2
This is a postcard of Crown Prince Wilhelm in the uniform and pickelhaube of Kürassier-Regiment Königin (Pommersches) Nr 2 was one of the most elite Kürassier regiments in the Prussian army. It was founded in 1717 and was garrisoned at Pasewalk where it was assigned to the Prussian II. Armeekorps. It’s regimental Chef (Chief) during the time of Kaiser Wilhelm II was his wife the Kaiser and Königin Augusta Viktoria. This regiment won fame at the Battle of Hohenfriedberg which took place on 4 June 1745. In the battle the Prussian army soundly routed a combined army of Saxons and Austrians. After this battle King Frederick II of Prussia became known as “Frederick the Great”.
There are two inscriptions on the obverse in English. They are in the margins and do not obscure the image of Wilhelm. This postcard was never mailed and we see on the reverse that it was produced in the U.S. in 1914.
