The Hohenzollern Commemorative Medal for 1848-1849 is a historical military decoration that was awarded by the Kingdom of Prussia. It was created to honor the soldiers who fought in the Schleswig-Holstein uprising of 1848-1849.

The medal is made of bronze and King Friedrich Wilhelm IV on the obverse side. The reverse side of the medal depicts a crowned eagle sitting on a sword and a laurel wreath. The words “DEN TAPFEREN KÄMPFERN 1848-1849” (To the Brave Fighters of 1848-1849) are inscribed around the border of the medal.

The ribbon that accompanies the medal is made of white, and black stripes. The stripes represent the colors of the Prussian flag, while the white stripe represents the unity of the German states during the uprising.

The Hohenzollern Commemorative Medal was awarded to members of the Prussian Army, Navy, and civilian volunteers who participated in the uprising. It was also awarded to the families of soldiers who were killed in action. The medal was first awarded in 1860 and continued to be awarded until 1898.

In total, approximately 36,000 medals were awarded, with about half going to soldiers and the other half to civilian volunteers. The Hohenzollern Commemorative Medal for 1848-1849 is an important piece of Prussian military history and serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought for the cause of German unification.
