Description
Introducing the pre-1897 reserve officer schirmütze for 3. Garde-Ulanen-Regiment from Prussia, an extremely rare piece of historical significance that we are excited to share with you today. The regiment, raised in 1860, was the final Garde-Ulanen-Regiment to be formed and was stationed in Potsdam, where it played a crucial role in the region’s military and social scene. This includes the Garde du Corps and the 1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß, the two leading cavalry and infantry regiments, making it a significant part of Prussian military history.
The schirmütze itself is a low and jaunty style, typical of the cavalry. Its dunkel blau (dark blue) body is accentuated by a wide yellow lemon band. The front visor is short and black, characteristic of pre-1897 models, and features a single Prussian reserve officer kokarde in the center. The interior of the schirmütze is equally remarkable, boasting a near-mint light brown leather sweatband and a flawless silk liner stamped in gold with the Graf (count) crown, the highest level of nobility. Below the crown is a stamped “M,” which may help to identify the officer who once wore this prestigious piece.
Despite being over 125 years old, the schirmütze is in stunning condition, with only a mild moth tracking visible upon close inspection. This exceptional artifact is a must-have for collectors of historical military memorabilia and enthusiasts of Prussian military history.
