POSTCARD – KAISERIN ELISABETH’S MONUMENT – AUSTRIA

$15.00

This postcard shows the monument to Kaiserin Elisabeth of Austria (1837-1898). Affectionately known as “Sissi,” she was Kaiser Franz Josef’s wife. She was born in Bavaria as a princess. Franz Josef’s life was filled with tragedy. First, his son Crown Prince Rudolf killed himself. Then in 1898, while visiting Italy, Sissi was assassinated. As if that were not enough, Franz Josef’s new heir, Franz Ferdinand, was himself assassinated in June 1914, which touched off WW I. The monument to Sissi was erected in Vienna (Wien). The postcard has been mailed.
