This is an NCO’s unissued portépée from Bataillon Nr 1, Kompagnie Nr 3 within an Infanterie, Fuß-Artillerie, or Eisenbahn Regiment, a Pionier-Bataillon, or a Luftschiffer-Abteilung. These portépées were worn on NCO’s bayonets as a sign of their rank. The white strap is doubled over and held in place by white thread. White tassels hang down from the portépée’s yellow-capped acorn, which has a white and yellow handle extending all the way to the strap. It certainly would complete a bayonet display for any of the previously-mentioned units.
