During WW I the Iron Cross 2nd Class was generally presented in a very simple paper packet. After the initial award, a recipient might opt for another Iron Cross and could get one from any number of military supply stores or even jewelers. This fine example includes an Iron Cross that is 100% when it comes to the paint. It is about as good as you will ever find. On the jump ring we can see a maker’s mark but cannot determine what it is.
The case is an unadorned black leatherette that measures 5/8″ x 2 3/4″ x 4 1/8.” Inside the upper half we see a white silk liner. A diagonal green silk ribbon holds the decoration’s ribbon in place across the upper lid. The case’s bottom half is covered in green velvet. This is quite unusual. We seldom see green used. An alternative compartment for storing the decoration’s ribbon is also present.
Overall, the decoration and presentation case are in fine condition and would make an excellent addition to any collection.
