BAVARIA – MILITARY MERIT CROSS – 3RD CLASS WITH SWORDS AND CROWN
This is a Military Service Cross Third Class with Swords and Crown. This decoration in three classes during WW I was awarded to Enlisted Men and NCO’s. It was first instituted in 1866 after the Austro-Prussian War. Bavaria was allied with Austria-Hungary against Prussia.
Our offering today is the brass toned cross. Immediately above the cross we see a pair of crossed swords. Immediately above the swords we see a large articulated crown. Connected to the crown there is a small piece of original ribbon as was given during war time.
