Description
This is a wonderful color postcard of König Friedrich August III of Saxony. It shows him in a general’s feldgrau overcoat. In looking at the shoulder boards, they are before he was promoted to Generalfeldmarschall. What is particularly interesting is that he is wearing a Saxon general’s pickelhaube in full parade configuration, i.e., complete with vulture feathers. Saxon generals were the only German generals who wore this type of feather, making their helmets ultra rare. We had the pleasure of offering one such helmet several years ago. It was amazing! The postcard was never mailed.
