This color postcard shows Kapitänleutnant Otto Weddigen in the foreground. Behind him we see a U-Boot conning tower. Below Weddigen is a poem. Weddigen was a great hero to the German people. He was the first naval officer to receive the Orden Pour le Mérite, as commander of the U-9. He was killed in action early the following year. Weddigen was to U-Boote as Manfred von Richthofen was to aviation. On its reverse, we see that it was produced to benefit the men of the Kaiserliche Marine. It was not mailed. Some staining appears on the reverse.
