Description
This is a color postcard of Bavaria’s Prinz Regent Luitpold (1821-1912). Luitpold succeeded Ludwig II in 1886 when Ludwig II was removed from power and then mysteriously drowned while walking beside a lake. Luitpold held titular control over Bavaria from 1886-1912. The postcard shows Luitpold on the occasion of his 90th birthday, 12 March 1911. The postcard was produced on the occasion of his death on 12 December 1912. Its reverse has a black border and is thus considered a mourning card. He was succeeded by König Ludwig III.
