Description
This is a color postcard of Prinzregent Luitpold of Bavaria. Luitpold was the effective King of Bavaria from 1886, when Ludwig II was removed as King due to his insanity (or so the story goes). His brother Otto was also judged too insane to become an acting king. Although Otto retained the title as Bavaria’s King, it was Luitpold who headed the royal family until his death in 1911. He is seen here in uniform. The postcard was mailed in Bavaria in 1911.
