Description
This is a color postcard of Kleiner Kreuzer (Small/Light Cruiser) S. M. S. Hamburg. She was a part of the Bremen Light Cruiser Class. During the 20th Century’s first ten years, she was used as a constant escort ship for Kaiser Wilhelm II and his royal yacht, the S. M. Y. Hohenzollern. During WW I she served as a U-Boot flotilla commander’s flagship during operations around Helgoland Island and the Battle of Jutland (Skagerrak). This color postcard (which actually comes from a painting) shows the S. M. S. Hamburg in profile, cruising under power. A small sail boat paces her. It was never used.
