Description
COVER – MITRE – OILCLOTH – EITHER ERSTE GARDE REGIMENT ZU FUß OR KAISER ALEXANDER GUARD GRENADIER REGIMENT 1 – KOMPAGNIE NR 7.
This is a beautiful example of the oil cloth cover for a Mitre. It is clearly marked for the 7th Company on its interior. It is correct for either the Erste Garde Regiment zu Fuß (EGRzuFUß) or the Kaiser Alexander Garde Grenadier Regiment Nr 1 Bataillon Nr I (KAGGR1). It is flawless and in outstanding condition. Its only tiny defect is that one hook fastener is missing at the bottom. This is a VERY rare accouterment that would complete your Mitre. It is a consignment item.
Just like pickelhauben, Mitres also possessed cloth covers to protect them from the elements. The primary difference was that the Mitres’ covers were made from oil cloth rather than linen or cotton. When the Mitres were not being used, they were placed in their covers and stored in the barracks’ Quarter Master’s storage room.
