Description
This is a postcard that was flown by airmail prior to WW I. The postcard was specially printed and offered to collectors who wanted to obtain a postcard that had actually flown on an airplane. It was an early offering, as it was flown barely nine years after the Wright Brothers’ first flight. The specially-printed postcard proudly proclaims that it was flown by airplane from Frankfurt am Rheine. It was double cancelled on 22 June 1912. A special 20-pfennig postage stamp was used. On the obverse, where an address was inserted, is a stamp for “Schufein & Co. Berlin.” The postcard was addressed, but no message was written on it.
