Description

This is a high-quality cigarette case that once belonged to a German See-Battalion soldier based in China.  It is rounded and a bit thicker than we generally see in cigarette cases. Its front features an enamel device in the upper right corner that consists of three silver-toned lions passant against a dark blue field surrounded by nine small hearts. This is very similar to the Danish National Coat-of-Arms. Engraved on the front are quite faint attributions of officers from Württemberg and Saxony. On the cases reverse the information below is professionally engraved in clear printed type (rather than script).

“Seesoldat Kuno Golz [Sea Soldier/See-Battalion Soldier]
1. Komp. OMD [Ostasiatische Marine Detachement]
Tientsin China via Sibirien”

A very faint engraving in script appears across the “S” in Seesoldat and reads either “Huna” or “Kuna” followed by a symbol.
Inside the case, both elastic bands are in place that held cigarettes on either side. Engraved in script on the left side is the information listed below.

“Rabe
Feldart-Regt. 20”

This is a fine cigarette case for a soldier who served in China at the colonial German base in Tientsin.
