GERMANY – ASHTRAY – OTTO VON BISMARCK
This supreme quality metal ash tray with a striking likeness of Otto von Bismarck, the “Iron Chancellor” of Germany, is made from a heavy cast iron. The ashtray is oval shaped and has a thick military green and brownish glaze. Cast into the edging of the ashtray is four spots for cigarettes or smaller cigars to rest. There is a Hohenzollern crown at the top and an eagle at the bottom. In the center is a high relief view of Otto von Bismarck. Below his likeness is the legend “Unser Bismarck.”
Bismarck along with von Moltke were the key architects of the rise of Germany. Bismarck the politician and Moltke the military strategist guided and advised Wilhelm I in the rise of Germany to a power house in Europe. In several wars in the 1860’s more states and kingdoms came under Prussian rule. In 1870-1871, Prussia lead all of Germany against the French and ultimately Wilhelm I was crowned as the first Emperor of Germany. All this was accomplished with the creation of the best army in Europe and for that matter the world. Britain may have ruled the waves but Germany was the key military power on the land.
The ashtray is in excellent condition.
