GERMANY – BREAD BASKET – PATRIOTIC – PORCELAIN
This is an interesting piece of tableware. It is a patriotic porcelain bread basket. During WW I the German people expressed their patriotic support by buying any number of items from jewelry, tableware, etc.
This bread plate has small handles on either end. Around the sides of the basket there are numerous vertical slots. Just below the slots, there are two different hand painted bands. The upper one consists of alternating colors from the German national flag. Below that is another band of branches from an oak tree complete with acorns.
In the center of the bread basket is a large 1914 Iron Cross
There is no hallmarking for the manufacturer.
Overall condition of this example of patriotic tableware is very good plus.
