A cap tally is an inscribed black silk ribbon, that is tied around the base of a schirmutze which usually bears the name of a ship or a navy. The tally is tied at the rear of the cap with the two ends hanging down to the shoulders as decorative streamers.

The S.M.S. Rheinland was a battleship and was one of four ships of the Nassau Class of Battleships. She was commissioned in 1910 and was involved in several Naval actions including the Battle of Jutland.
