GERMANY – PATRIOTIC ORNAMENT – FROSTED HAND PAINTED GLASS BELL SHAPED
Patriotic boxes were important collectible in Imperial Germany before and during WW I. The box that we are offering today is quite different. It is made of glass and is bell-shaped. It stands 4 1/4″ tall and measures 3 1/2″ in diameter at its base. The glass is frosted opaque. Painted on its exterior is an Iron Cross surrounded by a holly leaf wreath. The wreath is tied at the bottom with a bow sporting Germany’s national colors. The box separates and the top half tilts backwards (the edges are lined with gilt-toned metal). This is an exquisite, well made, unusual box with a holiday theme. It almost looks like a Christmas tree ornament!
