Description
GERMANY – SHOULDER BOARD – OBERBOOTSMAN OR OBERSTABSBOOTMANN
This is a single shoulder boards for an Oberbootsmann (Chief Petty Officer) or an Oberstabsbootsmann (Warrant Officer).
The top of the shoulder board is black velvet. On the shoulder board there is a gilt device. It consists of an anchor and in the center is a smaller device which indicates that this man served in the engine room of whatever ship he was assigned to. Also on the obverse at the end we see two extensions that helped to mount the shoulder board to a tunic. Finally at the top there is a small gilt Navy button.
The reverse of the shoulder board is a navy or black velvet backing. Attached to the shank of the button is a small jump ring which I don’t believe is original to the shoulder board
Overall the condition of the shoulder board is very fine.
