Pre WW I officer visor cap for the Navy See Bataillon which at that time there were three Battalions. One battalion was based in Wilhelmshaven, another in Kiel, and the third in China at Tsingtao. Once the war began the See Battalion transitioned to Marine Infantry. They then fought in Flanders along with elements of artillery and even Jastas.

This officers visor cap is made of fine dark blue, has a wide white band and a smaller trim band at the top. The single Reich officer kokarde is in the center as is correct. The condition of the exterior is marvelous and there is yet a trace of a moth track at the top. It has a sort black visor and I would date this cap from 1890-1905.

The interior of the cap has a lightly used leather sweatband. It also has a near mint golden silk liner. On the liner we see stamped the name of the sales store in Berlin. I have not seen this firm before. Also stamped in gold is the name of the officer “Schack.” This might provide the opportunity to research the original owner. These caps seldom come around and I have sold them in the past for $2,500.00+.
