GERMANY – INK WELL – BIEDERMAIER PERIOD

$195.00

This is a unique ink well from the Biedermaier period, which was from approximately 1815-1858. The inkwell begins with a burled style of wood base. Mounted on the wood base are small metal “buttons.” Attached to the base is a metal, saucer-like arrangement where spilled ink, pen nibs, paper clips, etc. might be placed. A small glass bottle for the ink is then attached to this area. The stopper for the ink bottle is of the same design as the base, with the inclusion of a floral motif. All is of very fine quality and condition. For you folks who enjoy using a fountain pen (as I do), this would be a great desk piece that could be filled with the ink of your choice. It would make a handsome addition to a desk without ink, as well.
