Description
This is a postcard of the small cruiser S. M. S. Cöln (Cologne). She was one of four ships in the small cruiser class headed by the S. M. S. Kolberg. She was commissioned in 1911. The Cöln was sunk at the First Battle of Heligoland Bight on 3 September 1914. Only one crew member from the S. M. S. Cöln survived. The postcard shows the ship steaming at sea. In the postcard’s upper left are some technical details about the ship. The postcard was never mailed.
