Description
This is an Ernennungsurkunde for an Oberst von Engelmann. He had been an oberstleutnant in Infanterie-Regiment Kaiser Wilhelm, König von Preußen Nr 120. He was promoted to Oberst, and transferred to command Fusilier-Regiment von Steinmetz Nr 37. This type of document was often sent along with a promotion patent. It served as posting orders to the new position. The officer was probably the first regiment’s deputy commander. He was now given command of his own regiment. The document measures 10 1/2″ x 8 1/4.” It boasts Kaiser Wilhelm II’s large, bold signature in black ink. The document was prepared and forwarded to von Engelmann on 21 April 1911 from the island of Corfu. Kaiser Wilhelm almost certainly was conducting business from the S. M. Y. Hohenzollern. I have not done any research. If von Engelmann was an Oberst and regimental commander in April of 1911, however, he almost certainly served as a general in WW I (if he lived that long).
