Description
This is a pair of Pionier-Bataillon Leutnant’s shoulder boards from the Kingdom of Saxony. Saxony fielded two Pionier-Bataillone. The first was Pionier-Bataillon (1. Königl. Sächisches) Nr 12, which was founded in 1849 and garrisoned at Dresden until 1914. It then was reassigned to Pirna, where it was attached to Saxon Armeekorps XII. The second was Pionier-Bataillon (2. Königl. Sächisches) Nr 22. It was established in 1899 and garrisoned at Riesa, where it was assigned to Saxony’s other Armeekorps, Armeekorps XIX.
The shoulder boards are silver bullion and display Saxony’s green chevrons. They have a double underlay. The first underlay, that closest to the shoulder board, is red. The second underlay is a gorgeous black velvet that serves as its backing and appears as its outside layer. The shoulder boards are of the slip-on variety. They are in excellent condition.
