Description
This is an attractive desk piece that commemorates a man’s WW I service with the German railway system. It is a spike similar to those used to hold railroad tracks in place after whammed into place by a forcefully swung sledge hammer. The spike measures 6″ in length and 1 ½” wide at its widest point. The spike weighs 10 ½ oz. It has a polished silver finish. The legend “Erinnerung a. d. Weltkrieg 1914” has been cut into the spike’s side, then blackened in. It is an intriguing relic from a railway man who ferried troops and much-needed-supplies to and from the front by rail.
