Description
This is a wonderful postcard that was produced in 1915 to commemorate the Battle of Quatrebras’ 100th anniversary. It had taken place on 16 June 1815. It sports likenesses of Braunschweig’s Herzog Friedrich Wilhelm and 1915’s Duke Ernst August. A monument containing a lion appears above them. At the monument’s base is Quatrebras. This battle preceded the Battle of Waterloo. At the battle Friedrich Wilhelm, also known as “The Black Duke,” was killed while leading his Hussar Regiment. The Battle of Waterloo took place two days later. The postcard, which was not mailed, was produced to benefit Braunschweig’s war aid.
