This postcard shows Kronprinz Rupprecht (1869-1955) of Bavaria’s first wife, Marie Gabrielle. Rupprecht was the heir to the Bavarian throne. After his father Ludwig III’s death, he was the Pretender. In addition to his royal duties, he was among the most-able WW I German commanders, holding the rank of Generalfeldmarschall. Rupprecht’s first wife, the Duchess Marie Gabrielle (1878-1912), died young. After her death, Rupprecht became engaged in 1918 and married Princess Antonia of Luxembourg (1899-1954) in 1921. This was not mailed.
