POSTCARD – CROWN PRINCE AND CROWN PRINCESS

$15.00

This postcard shows a rather young Crown Prince Wilhelm (1882-1951), with his wife Crown Princess Cecilie (1886-1954) seated on some steps. The young Crown Prince is uncharacteristically dressed in a suit. She is identified as the Duchess (Herzogin) from Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The caption also mentions they are at Gelbensande. It was the location of the Jagdschloss Gelbensande (Gelbensande Hunting Castle), which had been erected between 1880 and 1885 as a summer residence for Mecklenburg-Schwerin’s Grand Duke Friedrich Franz III (her father). Young Wilhelm proposed to the Duchess at the Jagdschloss, so it is quite probable this photo was taken shortly after his proposal. This was not mailed.
