POSTCARD – ELDEST SON – PRINZ WILHELM – CROWN PRINCE WILHELM AND CROWN PRINCESS CECILIE

This postcard shows Prinz Wilhelm of Prussia, Crown Prince Wilhelm and Crown Princess Cecilie’s oldest son. He was the heir to Germany’s throne, which he renounced. He was killed in 1940 fighting with the German Army in France. In this happier time he is wearing a Navy mutze with a dachshund in front of him. The dogs were Kaiser Wilhelm II’s favorite canines. When he went into exile in Holland at Haus Doorn, he had many of these dogs for companions. Several are buried on the lawn near the main house. The postcard is dated 1908. On the reverse we see that it was mailed in 1908.
