This postcard comes from a charcoal sketch depicting König Albert of Saxony (1828-1902). Albert was König Georg’s (1832-1904) older brother. Albert reigned as King and the head of the House of Wettin from 1873 to 1902. Georg succeeded Albert at his death, then sat on the throne until he died in 1904 (Georg reigned only from 1902 to 1904). Georg was succeeded by König Friedrich August III (1865-1932), who was Saxony’s final King. Albert is seen in uniform with an 1870 Grand Iron Cross at his neck. He is also wearing a medal bar and Breast Stars. The card is trimmed in black, and has his birth and death dates. A message has been written on the obverse below the information about König Albert. On the reverse we see that the postcard was mailed in 1902, the year of Albert’s death.
