Description
This is a postcard of the heavy cruiser S. M. S. Vineta. She was one of the five heavy cruisers of the Hertha-Klasse. She was commissioned in 1899. She served in the fleet from that time until before WW I. In spite of several refits she was set aside for being outmoded. When WW I began, she was used for coastal defense and then as a floating barracks. She was scrapped in 1920. The postcard shows her at rest off the coast. It was never mailed.
