Description

This pickelhaube is from the 1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß, a legendary infantry regiment founded in 1768 and garrisoned in Potsdam as part of the Garde-Korps.

The leather body of the helmet is supple and problem-free, with a squared front visor, a unique feature of this regiment. The trim on the front and rear of the helmet is silver-toned, including the chinscales, spike base, pearl ring and an extra tall fluted spike. The silver wappen is noteworthy, featuring extra wide spread wings that extend all the way to where the Prussian and Reich kokarden are located. The wappen also has a brass sunburst, but much of the finish has been lost over time. The helmet also features a handsome Garde star with multi-colored enamel that is unchipped and in fine condition. A surprise on the helmet is the very rare “Semper Talis” bandeau, which was only worn by the I. Bataillone and Regimental staff officers.

The interior of the helmet is in nice condition, with a brown leather sweatband and an equally fine silk liner.

The helmet is original and all-original, making it an amazing find from the most elite Battalion of the most elite regiment in the German army
